Share, If You Dare...

Do you have the guts?

What We're Summoning

We want what makes your skin crawl. We want your strange, your disturbed, your unsettling. We want what has nowhere else to run, that you no longer want to hide. We want your ghosts, your nightmares, your blood, your myths and legends. We want what the world is afraid of, and we want to bask in it. Whether it's uncanny, psychologically dreadful, atmospheric tales of the supernatural, or just plain weird- we want to read it, and we hope to print it. We're looking for works from the darkest corners of your mind that demand to be made known. We want to showcase writers who refuse to play it safe, with works that leave bloody fingerprints on the soul that linger long after the final sentence has passed.

Disclaimer: there ARE limits, as the mind can conjure things just as horrific as the body can perform. We accept a lot of things, and allow for lines to be crossed, but at the end of the day- we have to be mindful of our readers.

Formatting and Guidelines

We are currently accepting short fiction under 15,000 words, flash under 1,000 words, and poetry. We prefer clean, double-spaced documents, but can be easily convinced if the style and format needs to be a little strange.  Send it in using standard manuscript format (.docx or PDF) with your title, word count, and author name clearly marked.

Does your piece toe the line, or fit into an unexplained category? Send it in marked as other!

When your piece is ready, email it directly to thehorrorpersists@fanmail.com with the subject line formatted as 'Submission: [Story Title] - [Your Name]'. Be sure to include a third-person bio in your cover note, as we showcase pieces not selected on our monthly spotlight page. Please limit to three pieces per open submission.

Selected authors will receive $100 per piece, three free copies, and a restful night's sleep sworn by Arch Nemesis.

Submissions open November 1-January 1 for the April issue.

Submissions open May 1-July 1 for the October issue.

Journals published April 15 and October 15.

Submission is free, donations are welcome. All money sent goes to local animal shelters- horror can be fun, animal cruelty is not.

Too Many Terrors?

Have more than one story? Enter into our Collections Contest! Every year, our team chooses a collection of horror fiction, poetry, or something in between.

To enter, send in two to three of your pieces, a cover letter, and a summary of the collection. If chosen, we will reach out for the rest so that we can work together to finalize and get it at its best and scariest. The winner gets their collection published, five free copies, and $5,000.

Submissions are open every year from January 1-March 1, with a submission fee of $25. If this can't be met, contact us at the email thehorrorpersists@fanmail.com with the subject line listed as "help."

Winner is selected by June 1.

Collection is published December 15, with pre-orders opening November 15 for very spooky stocking stuffers.
