Before the Horror

Author and founder Danny B. Newman can no longer say how they got the idea, just that they were bored. "It was always the same movies on platforms," they complained. "And you can only loiter around the bookstore in the horror section for so long before the workers get creeped out or suspicious." The workers were not suspicious, as Danny is there nearly every week to write or shop and may as well be added to payroll. Upon the introduction to online journals in college, they were disappointed by the lack of horror representation, as well as the short word counts. Through the creation of this journal, people worldwide can enjoy and submit to their hearts content. "I wanted to create a home for those that couldn't find one in other journals. I wanted a resting place for people that checked every closet and searched under every bed, but persisted nonetheless when looking for what scared them head-on. Because that's the thing about horror; it doesn't go away, it persists."

Our legal team, Kristin, would like to say that no graves were robbed in the funding of this project, nor did any distant, wealthy relatives cease breathing and will away millions. However, if the topic of where the funding comes from comes up around moral support cat Arch Nemesis, the team immediately clamps sweaty hands over the questioner's mouth and whispers, "We're not supposed to talk about it," while eyeing the old cat anxiously. He currently does not have a criminal record.

The Horror Persists would not be here without you, the readers, or you, the writers. Through love and fear, stories locked away for what could have been eons get a peek at the flashlights used to read under covers well into the night.

Behind the Horror

Danny B. Newman

Founder, Editor-in-Chief

Danny got tired of bad horror films, and decided to go back to their roots; Literature. They have always had a love of the macabre and the weird, from Monster High books and diaries as a child to the horror section of Barnes and Noble as an adult. They believe they have a bachelor's in writing, but can no longer find the certificate, and a morbid curiosity of the niche sub-genre botanical horror.

A. Bossi

Reluctant Assistant Editor

Mrs. Bossi enjoys her life as a teacher, and getting to come home to her husband so that he can read to her at the end of the night. When asked about her love of horror, her response is usually "no, thank you." She was not kidnapped nor forced against her will to be here, she just really loves the extra time with the resident terror, Arch Nemesis. As the voice of reason and morality, thank you for your sacrifice, Mrs. Bossi!

Arch Nemesis

Moral Support, Professional Terror

Domesticated house cat Arch Nemesis enjoys playing with his water dish, making a mess of his food, and reigning as a Lord of Chaos between the hours of 10 pm and 2 am. He has no opinion of horror films, and has trouble reading human languages, but will watch the television diligently when hit show Supernatural is on. He is happily in charge of meowing or gently biting if the team works for too long.
